
Zoey Martinson
Zoey Martinson is an award-winning writer and director whose multidisciplinary career spans film, television, and theatre. Her acclaimed feature The Fisherman premiered at the Venice Biennale Film Festival, winning the UNESCO Fellini Medal and earning Best Director at American Black Film Festival and a Globe award at AFRIFF, Lagos Nigeria. In television, she has directed for A24/Showtime (Ziwe), MTV/Paramount+ (The Wave), Hulu (Incomplete), ABC/Disney, and DSTV in South Africa. Her NAACP-nominated short Cupids premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and aired on BET and CBS.
Martinson’s theatre work includes productions Off-Broadway and internationally, with plays published in multiple anthologies. She was named a 2025 Gotham “Series Creator to Watch” and is a WBD Directing Fellow, Rauschenberg Artist as Activist Fellow, DGF Fellow, and Virginia B. Toulmin Award recipient. Her projects have received nominations from Amnesty International, the African Movie Academy Awards, and the NAACP Image Awards, continuing her commitment to bold, globally resonant storytelling.
